Last Month, per the IAM-McGee Air Services contract, wage rate increases for all IAM-represented McGee workers went into effect. For all locations, rates increased by three percent. SJC received an additional $.36 and SFO received an additional $.30 per hour due to local market conditions. Please take a look at the new 2018 wage rates in each location to make sure that you are earning the correct amount.
On 7/20/17, the anniversary of the IAM-McGee contract, all McGee Air Services employees received contractual wage increases equal to the increase in the cost of living in their city/region (CPI-U) since McGee operations began. These wage increases are in addition to the step raises received at six months, one year, two years and three years.
The IAM and McGee Air Services negotiated this annual increase to ensure that no McGee Air Services employee's "real wage" would ever go backwards due to inflation. The following is the percentage increase in each location and how long each station has been open:
PHX--2.94%--Location open 365 days
PDX--2.20%--Location open 274 days
SJC--2.70%--Location open 260 days
SEA--0.66%--Location open 79 days
Please ensure that you have received the correct wage increase and if you believe that you have not, please contact your local manager and click here to let us know.
In early May, McGee Air Services began operation in Seattle, Washington performing ground handling services for Alaska Airlines. SEA is by far McGee's largest location with 700+ employees and the Company is currently hiring more employees. Remember that all McGee employees under the IAM contract can bid a vacancy anywhere in the McGee system based on your contract seniority.
So, if your interested in working in SEA, PDX, SJC, PHX and SFO (as of 10/1/17), contact your local managers and let them know you'd like to bid a vacancy.
On October 1, 2017 McGee will begin operations in SFO. SFO will be McGee's second largest operation and hiring is underway.
As always, we are seeking IAM members at McGee to become more involved with the IAM as local shop stewards and other union positions. If you are interested in becoming a local shop steward (that's a local union representative who ensures that your co-workers are being treated fairly under the contract), or other union positions click here to let us know.
And lastly, with the opening of SEA and SFO in the last few months, it has been difficult to do station visits at PDX, PHX and SJC. However, we will be getting to your stations soon and if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact us by clicking here.
Thanks, and see you soon!
